Estimate the cost of your journey
The amount depends in particular on the taxable distance and the rate applicable to your vehicle.
What does the amount depend on?
Distance travelled
Only the kilometres counted on the taxed network are included in the calculation. The amount depends on the distance travelled on the taxed network and on the vehicle's technical characteristics.
View the networkVehicle category
The category depends on the vehicle's technically permissible maximum laden mass.
Check my vehicleEuro class
It reflects the vehicle's emission level for certain air pollutants.
Frequently asked questionsCO2 class
It may be used to differentiate the rate according to the vehicle's characteristics.

How is the tax calculated?
The general principle is: taxable distance × rate applicable to the vehicle = tax amount.
- Taxable distance: this is the distance counted on the sections of the ECPL network used during your journey.
- Applicable rate: this depends on the vehicle category and on the environmental characteristics laid down in the ECPL rate rules.
Example:
Taxable distance: 80 km
Rate applicable to the vehicle: 9.7 ctm€/km
ECPL amount: 80 × 9.7 = 776 ctm€ or €7.76
Why do emissions matter?
The rate framework allows the amount to be differentiated according to the vehicle's environmental performance, in particular through the EURO class and the CO₂ emission class.
Special cases
Provisional, pending the final rules.
- Zero emission
- Vehicles in the lowest CO2 class benefit from a reduced rate, shown in the table above.
- Vehicle combinations
- A tractor unit with a trailer is assessed as a combination, based on the weight and number of axles of the combination as a whole.
- Partly taxed route
- You are only liable for the segments travelled on the designated sections, however many times you enter and leave the network.
- Exempt vehicles
- An exemption, once granted, suspends the tax for the vehicle and the activity it covers.
Rates & network FAQ
Which roads are covered?
The road network managed by the Grand Est Region covers 525 km. It comprises an east–west route made up of the RN4 / A33 and RN44, and a north–south route made up of the A30 / RN52 and A31 / A313. See the Rates & Network page.
I already use a toll motorway: do I also have to pay the Eco-contribution?
No. The Eco-contribution is not added to existing tolls. You will therefore not pay twice for the same stretch of road.
Are all toll-free roads taxed?
No. The ECPL only applies to roads managed by the Grand Est Region. See the Rates & Network page to identify the routes concerned. You are free to choose your route.
